31st of March
It's been a hard couple of weeks. I lost my friend in my hands on the Battlefield. It took me a while to recover a couple of weeks in fact but I had to get over it. I put it behind my back and got on with it. Anyway it is time for sleep so I rest of my head on the soft sprinkly dirt.
One morning I woke up like a flick of a switch. It sounded like the trumpet and joyful singing. At that moment the chief walks in and said Christmas my boy. I stuttered Christmas, yes Christmas. I repeated it several times. I found it hard. I thought to myself my first Christmas without my Mum. I snapped out of it is it and light up a ciggy and joined in.
At that moment, it was all fun and games until the chief yelled Germans get under get under quick. We all scattered across the trenches under tables getting our weapons and out of the blue. The chief pokes his head out raises his hands and asked for a ‘Day of Peace’ for Christmas. The chief picked up the ball and kicked it as far as he possibly could. At that moment it was a game or soccer on the Battlefield on Christmas day.
Anyway Mum I have to go now get back on that battlefield. I hope you get this letter this year and I hope to see you soon just remember Mum I love you.
Kind regard
